The Senate’s 2009-2011 transportation budget includes $400,000 for a route development plan for SR-2.
The money will be used to identify essential improvements from the port of Everett/Naval Station approaching the SR-9 interchange near Snohomish.
Sen. Jean Berkey, D-Everett, requested the funding.
“Something needs to be done to improve the trestle,” Berkey said. “It’s becoming increasingly dangerous and congested. We can’t rely on temporary fixes. This money will help us develop a long-term strategy.”
The total cost of the route development plan is $800,000. Snohomish County and Everett are each committing $200,000 to the project.
Berkey is encouraging the House of Representatives to include the funding in its respective budget.
