A bill that will make it easier for homeowners to use solar energy has been signed into law by Gov. Chris Gregoire.
Senate Bill 5136, sponsored by Sen. Steve Hobbs, D-Lake Stevens, makes it illegal for homeowner’s associations to prohibiting residents from installing solar panels on their roofs, as long as they meet health and safety standards and other requirements determined by the type of solar panel used.
“I have been a strong proponent of renewable energy for years,” Hobbs said. “This bill will hopefully encourage more people to use solar power. They will see lower energy bills and the environment will benefit.
