Hobbs tapped to help preserve Washington’s aerospace industry

Sen. Steve Hobbs, D-Lake Stevens, has been selected to serve on the Washington Council on Aerospace.

The Council, which was formally introduced today by the governor, will look for ways to keep Washington competitive in the Aerospace industry by removing obstacles that are hurting the sector.

“The aerospace industry is a source of pride in this state,” Hobbs said. “It also provides family-wage jobs that are critical to the economy. Losing even one aerospace job to other states such as Kansas or North Carolina isn’t an option. This Council will focus on finding ways to keep jobs here by making the state more competitive.”

The Council will bring together leaders from the aerospace industry, state government, labor unions and higher education to, among other things, improve worker training, research and academic programs.

Hobbs was chosen to participate because he understands the industry and strongly supports career and technical education (CTE) and apprenticeship programs.
