A room in the new $10 million Neighborhood House High Point Neighborhood Center will be named after Sen. Claudia Kauffman, who lived in the community as a small child and helped secure funding for the state-of-the-art building.
“High point is a wonderful, vibrant community,” Kauffman said. “This beautiful center is a testament to the hard work of community partners and residents. This will be a place where people can connect, learn and grow for years to come.”
Kauffman, D-Kent, along with her colleagues in the Senate, helped secure $2 million in the 2007 capital budget to help pay for construction.
The facility will serve the 4,000 children, youth and adults who live in High Point and the surrounding West Seattle community. Head Start classes, tutoring programs, employment services, community activities and more will be held at the center.
The neighborhood center is a LEED-certified “green” building meeting the highest standards of environmental design and sustainability.
The grand opening ceremony will begin November 14 at 2:00 pm. The center is at 6400 Sylvan Way SW, Seattle.
