SEATTLE - Sen. Karen Keiser (D-Kent) and Rep. Eileen Cody (D-West Seattle) will announce new legislation to benefit women's health at a press conference at Town Hall in Seattle on Sunday, January 8. They will be joined by fellow pro-choice lawmakers. Additionally, a woman who was uninsured when she had an abortion will address how this legislation will remedy existing gaps in access to reproductive health care. A health care provider and an American Baptist minister will also discuss how this legislation will address women’s health care needs.
Washington State has a long history of ensuring a woman’s ability to make the decision to have an abortion, but as Washington proceeds with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, Washington women could face increased barriers in their ability to access reproductive health care, including abortion services. Rep. Cody and Sen. Keiser will discuss how this legislation will address this problem and help ensure that Washington’s health care system is fair and equitable.
