Sen. Chris Marr, a Spokane Democrat and vice chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, helped break ground this morning on a key U.S. 195 safety project at the dangerous intersection of Cheney-Spokane Road. In the interview above, Marr explains plans to improve the entire 195 corridor from I-90 to Hatch Road.
Two people have died this year in separate collisions at the dangerous 195 intersection with Cheney-Spokane Road. Marr helped secure $250,000 in the state transportation budget approved this year to build a deceleration lane for which work has now begun.
Plans call for building a right turn lane for southbound vehicles exiting the highway onto the road, increasing visibility for motorists trying to turn left onto the highway going northbound.
Long-term plans call for building an interchange at the intersection and two others like it in the corridor.
