Today I was honored to receive the “Pioneer Educator” award from WA Families for Online Learning. This award represents the tremendous effort of fellow legislators, parents, kids and countless others who show continued interest, leadership and support of online public school programs.

Online learning adds a richness to the types of courses students can take and increases the availability of classes.

Additionally, technology has been and will continue to be a critical part of every student’s life and career success.

Online learning encourages student use of technology to accomplish their immediate goals while building a skill set for future jobs.

As we embrace online learning and weave technology into education, we must always remember parents are student’s first and best teachers. Nothing can ever replace this.
