Sen. Ed Murray, D-Seattle, prime sponsor of Washington's marriage equality law, issued the following statement regarding its approval in Tuesday's election:
"We in Washington took this historic step together. It is a great moment for families across our state and, personally, for me and Michael, my partner of 21 years. Over the years, Washingtonians have come to know gay and lesbian couples as friends and neighbors. I want to offer my deepest thanks to everyone who shared their personal stories of love and commitment with others, and also to thank everyone who listened. Soon, our families will have the deep comfort and satisfaction of saying 'We’re married.'"
