OLYMPIA — The proposed capital budget announced by leaders in the state Senate this week includes funding for a series of projects in the 45th District.
The proposal includes $2 million to pay for infrastructure for the proposed $27 million Redmond Central Square city park project. The two-acre park would be in close proximity to businesses employing 4,000 workers in downtown Redmond and the area could be home to as many as 2,000 units of new housing by 2010.
Also included was $618,000 for the Duvall Multi-Service Center, a proposed 12,000-square-foot human services center for the Snoqualmie Valley. The facility will house an array of services to the area’s most vulnerable citizens, including low income housing, financial and life skills education, mental health counseling and substance abuse treatment among others.
The construction budget proposal also included $162,000 to build a shelter and commercial kitchen for the Carnation Farmers Market and another $100,000 for chimney repair at Monroe’s Frank Wagner Elementary School.
"These important projects will strengthen our communities and create jobs,” said Sen. Eric Oemig, D-Kirkland. “I fought to get these in the Senate budget and I will be pushing to make sure these projects make it into the final budget.”
The House has proposed its own capital budget proposal. Differences must be reconciled before a final version is sent to the governor’s desk.
