Senate Democrats schedule budget rollout

Friday, February 24 2012 - Radio | Permalink

As lawmakers enter the last weeks of the 2012 session, Senate Democrats prepare to present their supplemental budget proposal.

Sen. Brown: "The Senate budget will be out on Tuesday, and our jobs package."

Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown says the rollout of the adjustments to the 2011-13 biennial budget will reveal differences between the Senate plan and the House Democrats budget, but she says none of the differences are insurmountable…

Sen. Brown: “We have already said we would like to protect the social safety net from elimination and minimize further cuts to higher education and K-12. I don’t think reconciling the differences between the House and the Senate on the spending side will be that tough.”

Brown says last week’s upturn in the economic and caseload forecasts have relieved some of the pressure to approve a revenue package, but that the question of new revenue will continue to be debated, leading up to the Legislature’s projected adjournment on March 8th.
