As many are aware in 2007 local child, Zina Linnik, was murdered in our district. There have been many moving efforts to honor and highlight the importance of safety and community strength.

Shortly after her slaying, the Governor convened the Sex Offender Task Force to review our laws and procedures regarding sex offenders. Over the past two sessions I have sponsored legislation to implement recommendations from the Task Force regarding wider collection of DNA samples of convicted sex offenders and a statewide unified sex offender registry.

This session we also took a step to honor Zina and do something positive for the children of the neighborhood by dedicating $950,000 in the budget for a new children’s park near McCarver Elementary School.
