We should take a closer look at wind power

Tuesday, October 06 2009 - Phil Rockefeller | Permalink

Renewable energy resources, especially wind, will be an essential part of our in-state energy production to meet future needs and help our state be energy independent.

We have already developed most of our hydropower potential and do not have commercial reserves of oil and natural gas, so we need to be exploring other energy sources. We do have abundant wind power potential that can provide jobs and business opportunities.

Washington is already fifth among states in production of electricity from wind. Local communities, where wind farms are sited, welcome the positive job and income from them.

Equally important, these wind energy sources will not contribute to the buildup of CO2 pollution which is forcing global warming. Washington state is committed to reducing its CO2 emissions to do its part to avoid dangerous impacts.

Wind energy can be integrated with our firm hydropower energy production to meet future needs, create economic opportunity, and is good for the environment — a unique triple play!
