Rep. Christine Rolfes of Bainbridge Island has been selected to replace Phil Rockefeller in the Senate.

Having represented the 23rd Legislative District since 2007 in the House of Representatives, Rolfes will bring a strong knowledge of the district to the Senate. She was the overwhelming choice of the Kitsap County Commissioners to replace Rockefeller and is scheduled to be sworn in Tuesday.

Rolfes served two terms on the Bainbridge City Council prior to her election to the House. Among other issues, she has focused on ferry reform, military-family issues, sustainability and education. You can read more about her here.

Rockefeller’s seat opened up when he was appointed to the Northwest Power and Conservation Council, effective July 1, by Gov. Chris Gregoire. He had represented the district for 13 years.

Rolfes will be sworn in Tuesday, July 26, by Kitsap County Superior Court Judge, Theodore Spearman.
