In 2007 I co-sponsored the companion bill promoting Innovation Partnership Zones (IPZ).
The Washington State Department of Commerce has awarded $1.5 million in grants to three different Innovation Partnership Zones.
The Aerospace Convergence Zone in Snohomish County received $250,000 to develop the Washington Aerospace Training and Research Center at Paine Field. The center will support training and research in the aerospace industry. It will be a place for research and technology transfer and will provide just-in-time training for aerospace workers.
I have always been a strong supporter of IPZs and the Aerospace Training Center so it is wonderful to see the work come full circle with funding.
The IPZ program encourages collaboration to advance innovation and economic development. The $250,000 will help stimulate the growth of the aerospace industry clusters and intellectual capital, while helping to build the Snohomish economy. The program will lead to new technologies, marketable products, company formation and job creation.
