Senate passes marriage equality

Wednesday, February 01 2012 - The Hopper | Permalink

The Senate has passed SB6239, a historic vote clearing the most significant hurdle in enacting marriage equality in Washington state. The final vote was 28-21 in a debate marked by great respect shown by both sides for deeply held convictions.

"The citizens of Washington state have come to understand that lesbian and gay families are their neighbors and their friends," said Sen. Ed Murray, prime sponsor of the bill.

"We share the same short moment of life. We like you seek the chance to live our lives, to experience joy, to care for our families, to contribute to our families and to the nation we love."
